The Art of Chocolate - February 3, 2006

An indulgence of culinary and visual arts. It's a chocolate trick or treat for grown-ups and offers sweet deals .

Come home, to your town, my town, Newtown.
The spirit of Valentine's Day quickly approaches. In preparation, AHA! Friday (arts, history, adventure), and the world's favorite confection are incorporated into a delightful evening making the heart of Newtown a delicious destination the evening of Friday, February 3, 2006.

The flavor of the event, The Art of Chocolate, has been captured in the work of Wendy Lion of Lion's Eye Design. Wendy is the second in a series of Newtown artists who were given creative license to express their assigned AHA! theme in the style that reflects their personal vision.
The inspiration for the Aha! Friday poster Art of Chocolate came during a vacation moment while sitting on Sunny Isles Beach, enjoying the sea and the sun. Wendy recounts, I realized that I had been given the best month and the best theme. I decided I would take photos of my favorite chocolates and nonpareils then incorporate them in an illustration for one of my favorite holidays, Valentine's Day.

Upon returning home from vacation, Wendy went to Newtown Chocolate Shop ( and discussed her idea with owner Doug Haines. It was a stroke of luck that chocolate hearts were available as Halloween was just around the corner. Doug, a big supporter of AHA! Friday, graciously contributed the chocolates and a photo shoot was quickly arranged.

Wendy was inspired by discovering so many different chocolates available to enjoy, so much so that she decided to use them graphically on the poster. All of the elements, colors and inspiration worked, ending up with Newtown - a delicious destination!
